Breech Presentation
Studies have shown that Acupuncture is successful in turning breech babies to their optimal position for birth, using a Chinese technique called 'moxibustion' or 'moxa'. This can be helpful for those wishing for a natural birth, or a birth with as little intervention as possible.
The technique involves the burning of a Chinese herb (mugwort) to warm an acupuncture point on the outside of the little toe. It is carried out once-twice a day for up to 10 days, until the baby has turned into the optimal position. Many women report the baby beginning to kick and move after a few minutes of treatment. It can take several days of treatment for the baby to turn.
The optimal time to perform this treatment is at 33-35 weeks gestation, but babies have been known to turn in the later weeks, too, when this technique has been used.
This technique has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years. It is relaxing, safe for both you and your baby and it works!

Pre Menstrual Syndrome


Premenstrual syndrome, or PMS, refers to the range of physical and emotional symptoms that many women experience in the lead-up to their period. PMS symptoms usually start between 5 - 12 days before the start menstruation. Some women have only mild symptoms while others can suffer greatly, symptoms vary from women to women and from cycle to cycle.


PMS is due to unbalanced hormonal fluctuations. A mixture of correct diet, adequate exercise, and emotional clarity, along with acupuncture and Chinese herbs can correct imbalances and bring long-term relief. 
The most common emotional symptoms of PMS include:  
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Nervous tension
  • Mood swings
  • Depression
  • Aggression
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Lower libido
  • Wanting to be alone
  • Reduced interest in work and social life


The most common physical symptoms of PMS include: 
  • Aches and pains, particularly abdomen and legs

Acupuncture and herbal medicine offer a natural approach to PMS, together they remove energy blockages and in turn stabilizes hormonal fluctuations and stimulate the body's natural functions and encourage it to establish optimum balance. It also provides deep relaxation that helps to calm the mind. Acupuncture also has virtually no side effects.
A November 2002 study in the medical journal Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics showed that the success rate of acupuncture in treating PMS symptoms was 77.8% whereas it was 5.9% in the placebo control group. Studies show promising data that acupuncture affects the menstrual cycle by having a neuroendocrine affect on the body. This means that the different combinations of acupuncture points play a role in the release of hormones responsible for regulating the cycle. By establishing a regular cycle and balancing the many hormones involved, the PMS symptoms decline. The symptoms that are caused by high levels of estrogen in the luteal phase of the cycle will disappear as the progesterone and estrogen levels become more balanced and regular with each cycle.


Exercise plays an important role in the treatment of PMS. 30 - 45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times per week improves blood circulation and significantly helps reduce symptoms.


Balanced nutrition is crucial for overcoming PMS. Certain foods such as alcohol, caffeine, cold temperature foods, salt, and animal fats exacerbate symptoms of PMS and should be avoided. Food necessary for a harmonious menstrual cycle include: plenty of organic vegetables, small amount of fruit, whole grains, legumes, seaweed, small amount of lean hormone-free meats, and fish (espicially salmon, tuna and trout)


Women do not have to accept and live with premenstrual syndrome. When the symptoms of PMS are reduced or eliminated, women feel more energetic - physically, mentally and emotionally.
